The Osaki OS-Pro Maestro is a high-class, high-quality chair, with a variety of high-end features. If you’re looking for a top-notch massage experience, this may be the chair for you. As we’ll see, this is a fairly elite chair, one which may appeal to the discerning connoisseur or otherwise serious massage chair fan. It even has one of my own personal all-time favorite features, a heated massage roller. With all of that said, let’s jump in and take a look at the Osaki OS-Pro Maxim Zero Gravity.https://www.youtube.com/embed/F7ut_ujHJkc
1.) Features And Programs
L Track Roller
All massage chairs have one of two types of roller track design, S-track and SL-track or L-track. If you’re not familiar, the roller tracks are in essence the “backbone” of the chair and the main massage agent, so they’re fairly important. The S-track runs from your head and neck down your spine to the tailbone (coccyx) while the SL- or L-track is a longer version of that, one that keeps going down to your glutes and the tops of your hamstrings. To be clear, the longer L-track systems are still S-track too, it’s simply that they are a longer form. While I have enjoyed many delightful S-tracks, I like it that this one is L-track: I feel any chair at this price point ought to have an L-track.
Most massage chairs are either 2D, meaning the rollers operate up and down and side to side—a two-dimensional plane—or 3D, meaning the rollers operate up and down, side to side, and in and out, adding the dimension of depth to the massage. A 4D massage chair is a 3D massage chair, but a 3D massage chair in which the speed of the rollers can be adjusted independently from each other, meaning you can enjoy fast and slow motions in different rollers at different times. I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed the 4D massage experience. You can customize it in new ways, giving yourself more control over the experience. Not only is the 4D experience customizable, the fact that you have so much control over it means you can actually experience something that approximates some of the finer techniques of human massage therapists. A therapist can alternate between fast and slow hand motions, which can be especially helpful to work out the tension knots from your back. If you are looking to experience something like that, a 4D massage chair is one of the better ways to go.
The OS-Pro Maestro uses body scan technology to map out the key areas of your neck and back in order to optimize the amount of pressure it applies during the massage. This feature is more important and more wonderful than you might intuit. Because everyone’s neck and shoulders are unique, the scan is important for detecting your height and re-calibrating as necessary.
Auto Leg Scan & Leg Extend
As with the body scan, the ottoman scans your legs and figures out the optimal leg length for your height. The foot component extends outwards and retracts inwards as need be. All you have to do is sit there while the leg scanner extends and retracts, and then apply pressure with your feet to indicate that it is at the position you desire. You can also use the remote to auto adjust the leg component, extending or retracting to whatever length you need. I have to say, I really like this feature. It’s nice to have the means to easily and handily adjust the leg length to where you want it.
Foot & Calf Kneading
The Pro Maestro has spinning reflexology rollers, which travel along the sides and middle of the feet. This produces a more hands-on, kneading experience. The foot portion of the massage also has special components that stretch and massage the bridge and heel of the foot. Another benefit: the calf portion will inflate to the appropriate amount of pressure, and then initiate a calf kneading massage. This helps to increase the blood flow to the legs, which has the effect of increasing the level of relaxation. On the subject, it’s also worth mentioning the circular motion of the air massagers on your calves. This is really something, a wonderful feature that Osaki is right to emphasize.
NASA-inspired, the Zero Gravity position is designed for increased relaxation. The chair reclines, and that leaves the weight of your back to be supported by the backrest. Your knees actually go above your chest, and this optimizes your blood flow.
This chair only requires 3” of clearance from the backrest to the wall, meaning you won’t need a lot of space for it. The secret to this space-saving technology is that the chair itself slides forward as you recline. I have to tell you, whether you have a lot of living space or not, space-saving technology is wonderful because it minimizes the amount of area you have to allocate to the chair.
Slim LCD Remote Control
I like remote controls that take the guesswork out of the equation, and the Maestro Pro does well in this area. The slim LCD remote control has 4 very simple buttons to allow you to adjust the following: recline, incline, auto, and home. The buttons will allow you to navigate through the menu in order to select Neck/Shoulder, Lower Back, Auto, Manual, Advance, or Air Massage.
If the remote isn’t enough—and in my experience, it usually is—this chair provides quick control buttons in the form of the Power, Play/Pause, Auto, Zero-Gravity, and 4D adjustments. There’s also a USB outlet to charge your device if you want to use your phone or tablet. The only part of this feature I’ve found myself using is the USB port, but your mileage may vary. Personally, I like the remote.
2) Massage Techniques And Styles
Automatic Massage Programs
The Osaki OS-Pro Maestro has 8 automatic massage programs to choose from, which is a pretty reasonable number. They are as follows: Demo: This program helps to demonstrate the massages the chair has to offer. Relax: As the name indicates, this is a softer, more relaxing massage, one which brings you to a less stressful, more loosened state of being. Swing: This program has a back-and-forth rocking motion which creates a more calming state during the massage. It’s one of my own personal favorites. Stretch: This program uses the airbags to achieve a “locking” sensation in the legs, hips, arms, and shoulders, followed by a recline/decline which has the effect of stretching you out again. Think of this program as your go-to whenever you need a light stretch in your calves, hamstrings, shoulders, and waist. Scraping: This program is characterized by the scraping-style massage. Don’t be put off by the name: it describes a movement from the inside of the body to the outside that promotes blood flow, and that is one of the most important functions of a massage. Shiatsu: A more pinpointed massage, one which probably needs no introduction. Lady: A massage optimized for women. Gentleman: A massage optimized for men.
There are 4 different manual modes, including kneading, tapping, shiatsu, and rolling. You have the option of pinpointing a particular spot on your back, or of massaging by sections of the body.For example, you can place the focus on your shoulders, arms, lower back, or calves, and there are custom settings for the neck and shoulders, lower back, and for air massage.
3) Massage Intensity And Speed
There are 5 intensity adjustments and 5 speed adjustments for the massage rollers. This is a pretty reasonable number: I tried it with the intensity and the speed up all the way, and it was very highpowered.
4) Special Features
This chair has some neat special features, from color options to heated back rollers. Let’s take stock.
Heated Back Roller
The back heating system of this chair is one of the most spectacular features you are likely to encounter in a massage chair. Where most massage chairs with heating have the heating elements in the back of the chair, this chair has the roller itself as the heating element. What this allows for is a much greater surface heating area. In fact, getting a massage with a heated roller is remarkably like a hot stone massage: it warms the muscles from your neck to your hamstrings.
Bluetooth & HD Speaker
I’m a big believer in listening to music or podcasts while I have a massage, and this chair has me covered: Bluetooth technology and an Amphitheater sound system. While I have generally found that massage chairs with sound systems have high-quality sound, that is especially true of this one.
Your options for delivery include free curbside delivery and white glove delivery for $250.00.
The specifications are as follows:
|Width:||20” (Seat), 30” for the chair as a whole|
|Length:||60” (Standing), 69” (Reclining)|
|Height:||39.5” (Reclining), 47.5” (Standing)|
6) Warranty & Service
The free warranty covers parts and labor for the first year, parts through the second year, and structural framework through the third year. You can also get an extended parts and labor warranty, $149.95 for another year or $249.95 for 2 more years. As is usual with these warranties, normal wear and tear, abuse or neglect, animal damage, fluid stains, water damage, mold, cuts, and burns are not covered.
This chair has some pretty notable high points. I definitely like that it is an L-track: the longer track is what I would expect in a chair at this price point. The 4D massage is actually quite impressive. I played around with it for a while and discovered I quite liked it. Many high-end massage chairs approximate the feeling of a massage therapist’s hands, but I have to say, there is something about the 4D, the way it uses those fast and slow motions to give the sensation of a human-administered massage that I really enjoy. The body scan is nice, but it’s the kind of thing I would expect on a chair at this level. I’m more impressed by the auto leg scan and leg extend, which is easy to use and a delight. Getting a foot massage at the perfect length for your feet is a really wonderful experience, and I recommend it highly. The Zero Gravity position is also very enjoyable and relaxing. I definitely find it compliments other features of this chair. I also like that this chair has 8 automatic massage programs. That’s a good number to have: I can never keep track of many more than that, and it provides plenty of variation so you’re unlikely to get bored. The heated back roller is one of the most amazing features I have ever experienced in a massage chair, and it alone is reason enough for this chair to win Massage Chair of the Year in my book.
With a chair as wonderful as the Pro Maestro 4D, it can be hard to find much to dislike. I suppose I had a passing thought that I wanted more than 5 massage intensity settings, but to be fair, 5 does go fairly high. It would be nice to see a downloadable app with which one could control this chair—a feature seen in some other models.
Conclusion: Taking Stock
Is this chair for you? If you’re looking for a first-time chair and you don’t want to spend very much, this may be a chair to pass on. On the other hand, if you’re looking for the absolute best in massage chairs, the Pro Maestro 4D probably has your number. Give it a try, and see for yourself.
